If you wish you could get better gas mileage than your car usually allows, you’re in luck! There are plenty of small adjustments that you can make to both your car and the way you drive that will help you save on gas. Here are some tips to help you get better fuel economy.
The best way you can save gas is by slowing down. If you go a little slower—not under the speed limit but not over it—you’ll not only use less gas but you’ll slam on the brakes less, which always wastes tons of energy, and you’ll be able to coast to a stop more often.
You should also consider using cruise control whenever you can, since automatically maintaining the same speed means that you aren’t accidentally pushing up the speed without noticing, or dropping speed and then punching it up again.
Avoid idling. It doesn’t actually warm up your car faster—you can do that in a couple of minutes in your car—and it’s a huge waste of gas. You should also do your best to minimize the impact of extreme heat or cold on your engine, which makes it work harder and use more fuel. In cold weather, park in a garage when you can, and when it’s hot park in shade.
